Europe opens higher after UK GDP figures

Stock markets in Europe opened slightly higher on Friday after data reports showed that the United Kingdom economy shrank by less than expected 0.1% in the second quarter of 2022. Year over year rise of 2.9% topped forecasts. The country's industrial production in June also had a weaker than projected fall, while the quarterly trade deficit reached the highest level ever recorded.

The DAX advanced 0.11% at 9:02 am CET as Daimler Truck gained 2.53% at 9:04 am CET. London's FTSE 100 was 0.15% higher at 9:00 am CET with its best performer Flutter Entertainment up 6.59% at 9:01 am CET. The CAC 40 increased by 0.13% at 9:00 am CET as Sanofi led the gains with a 2.77% rise at 9:02 am CET.

The euro was 0.11% lower against the dollar, selling at 1.03102 at 8:59 am CET. The British pound was flat compared to the greenback, changing hands for 1.21983 at the same time.
