Israel, Turkey to normalize relations after a decade

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid announced on Wednesday that Israel and Turkey have finally normalized their relations, as a result of which ambassadors and consuls are expected to return to Ankara and Tel Aviv.

The first signs of a possible warming of relations between the countries were noticed in December last year when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said such development of events is possible. The relations had initially deteriorated in 2010 when almost a dozen of people with Turkish citizenship died in an attack by the Israeli army in Gaza. Ankara has been a strong critic of Tel Aviv, and has referred to its actions as ''barbarism surpassing Hitler.''

The Israeli Economic Office in Turkey was previously reopened in August this year after three years of closure.
