Strong winds on Corsica leave 3 dead, a dozen injured

Authorities of the French island of Corsica revealed on Thursday that three people died in accidents caused by heavy rains and hurricane-force winds, while at least a dozen more were injured.

A severe storm rushed French islands in the south following a period of high temperatures and drought, pulling trees out of the ground and damaging roofs, as well as leaving as many as 45,000 households without power. Among the victims was also a 13-year-old girl who died after a tree fell on her campsite.

Rescue teams were on the ground, authorities added. Next to Corsica, severe weather conditions were also registered in the southern departments of Loire and Ain in France. Yesterday, the streets of Marseille were also hit by major floods.
