Dow falls 300 pts after jobs, consumer data

United States stock markets fell on Tuesday after data on job openings, consumer confidence and home prices failed to dissuade investors that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates at an elevated level for longer.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index dropped 0.94% or 300 points, with worst performers Dow Inc., Caterpillar and Chevron losing over 2%. The Nasdaq 100 was 1.42% down and the S&P 500 lost 1.18% at 10:43 am ET.

The euro was flat compared to the dollar to go for 0.99918 a minute later.
