Europe closes mixed on energy woes
Major European stock indexes closed mixed on Tuesday following a volatile session during the day. European Commission announced the economic sentiment declined in August, while the bloc also commented on the situation in Ukraine, saying it is not improving. France warned the country needs to prepare for a harsh winter and called for a reduction in energy use amid problems with Russian gas supplies, while European gas prices and oil futures dropped during the day.
The DAX closed 0.36% higher as Porsche rose by 3.92%. The CAC 40 went down by 0.28%, with TotalEnergies SE plummeting by 3.62%. The FTSE 100 decreased by 0.98% at the close and Centrica dropped by 6.96%.
The euro rose by 0.26% against the dollar to sell for $1.00231 at 5:30 pm CET. The pound sterling lost 0.32% to the greenback to change hands for $1.16700 at 5:35 pm CET.
