US welcomes UN's report on China's abuse of Uyghurs
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken welcomed on Thursday yesterday's report released by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on China's maltreatment of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang region.
The US "welcomes this important report, which describes authoritatively the appalling treatment and abuses of Uyghurs and members of other ethnic and religious minority groups by the government of the People's Republic of China," the State Department cited Blinken in an official statement.
The UN's report concluded that Beijing may have committed international crimes by conducting discriminatory detention of Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim groups in Xinjiang.
