US initial jobless claims up 5,000 to 213,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States rose by 5,000 to 213,000 in the week ending September 17, the Department of Labor revealed in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average fell by 6,000 from the previous week's revised average to come in at 216,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending September 10, remained unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment landed at 1,379,000, recording a drop of 22,000 from the previous week's revised level. The 4-week moving average slumped by 8,250 to reach 1,404,750.
