Voter turnout in Italy 8% lower than last election

The number of voters who took to the polls in Italy's snap election on Sunday is 8% short of its last general election turnout.

By 07:00 pm CET, 51,25% of voters cast their ballots, compared to 2018's 59.25%, according to Euronews.

The election, originally planned for next year, is being held in September after Prime Minister Mario Draghi resigned and his coalition collapsed. Italians are now expected to choose their most radical right-wing government since World War II.
