IAEA's Grossi to travel to Kiev, Moscow
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi is expected to travel to Kiev and Moscow next week, the agency said in its Saturday update. The primary purpose of his visit will be "agreeing and implementing a nuclear safety and security zone" around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
The announcement follows news that the plant's Director General Ihor Murashov has been placed in "temporary detention" by Russia. Grossi stated that the IAEA is looking for clarifications, stressing that Murashov's detention has a detrimental effect on the safety and security of the plant. In addition, IAEA experts at the facility reported that several explosions were again heard in its vicinity, "believed to have been caused by landmines."
