Wall Street rallies at close as Dow tops 750 points
The major United States stock indexes finished the Monday session off with strong gains, with the Dow Jones briefly reaching as much as 900 points near the closing bell, after Friday's previous dive.
The cooler-than-expected economic data reports in the country seemingly boosted the traders' positive sentiment, as they might be showing hopes that the Federal Reserve could possibly slow down with its aggressive interest rate hikes.
The Dow Jones climbed 2.66% or 765 points at the closing bell, with Chevron soaring 5.74%. At the same time, Nasdaq 100 surged 2.36% or 258 points, as Regeneron Pharmaceuticals pulled the index up by 6.72%. The S&P 500 jumped 2.59% at the close, with Marathon Oil shooting up 10.58%. The euro gained 0.25% against the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, selling for 0.98265.
