US initial jobless claims up by 29,000 to 219,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States rose by 29,000 to 219,000 in the week ending October 1; it was shown in the Department of Labor's report published on Thursday.

The previous week's reading was revised from 193,000 down to 190,000. The 4-week moving average stood at 206,500, up 250 from the previous week's revised average.

Meanwhile, the insured unemployment rate came in at 1% for the week ending September 24, an increase of 0.1 percentage points from the previous week's revised average. The insured unemployment for that week stood at 1,361,000, an increase of 15,000 from the prior week's modified figures. The 4-week moving average was 1,370,750, down by 10,250 compared to the week prior.
