US trade deficit up at $73.3B in September

The goods and services trade deficit in the United States stood at $73.3 billion in September, increasing by $7.6 billion from the revised figure of $65.7 billion observed in August, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis and the US Census Bureau stated in their report issued on Thursday.

September exports were $258 billion, down $2.8 billion from August, while imports totaled $331.3 billion, $4.8 billion more than in the previous month.

Moreover, exports of goods came in at $180 billion, which is $3.7 billion less than August's revised figure. The report noted a decrease of $2.3 billion in industrial supplies and materials in this area. Meanwhile, imports of goods went up $2.9 billion to $272.9 billion compared to the previous month, with semiconductors and telecommunication equipment increasing by $1.1 billion each.
