UK approves vaccines for Omicron BA.4/5
United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) on Wednesday authorized the use of the bivalent Pfizer-BioNTech booster aimed at the original COVID virus strain, as well as its Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants.
The shot will be available to citizens older than 12, adding another booster to the UK's combat against COVID variants that already includes the vaccines against the Omicron BA.1 strain. At the same time, the MHRA also approved Novavax's Nuvaxovid vaccine for immunization of the adult population.
Earlier today, the European Commission signed an amendment to its contract with Pfizer-BioNTech that should allow for easier access to vaccines that now may be delivered and stored in warehouses upon a country's specific request.
