US closes lower as midterm vote count is still on
Major stock market indexes in the United States closed lower on Wednesday as the counting of the votes cast in the midterm election continued, prolonging the tensions on who will claim the congressional majority. Meanwhile, companies such as Tesla Inc., Coinbase Global Inc., and The Walt Disney Company saw significant drops in the value of their shares, each for different reasons.
The Dow Jones closed 1.95% or 646 points lower. The Nasdaq 100 decreased by 2.37% or 261 points, with Lucid Group Inc. plunging by 16.96%. The S&P 500 declined by 2.08%. Disney was the worst performer at the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 at the end of the session, sinking by 13.17%.
The euro lost 0.60% to the dollar at 3:59 pm ET to change hands for $1.00115.
