Turkey confirms attack on PKK,YPG in Syria, Iraq

Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed its forces launched an airstrike in northern Syria and Iraq, noting it targeted Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK), and People's Defense Units (YPG) in the attack.

The ministry of defense explained the attack was conducted "to prevent terrorist attacks against people and security forces from the north of Iraq and Syria, to ensure border security and to destroy terrorism at its source," noting that the operation was carried out "in line with the right of self-defense arising from Article 51 of United Nations Charter."

Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) spokesperson, Farhad Shami, stressed that Turkish forces have struck several cities across northern Syria, noting that Kobane, "the city that defeated ISIS," was subjected to bombardment by the aircraft of the "Turkish occupation."
