Asia-Pacific mostly lower amid ongoing COVID crisis
Major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly lower on Monday after a district of Guangzhou entered a five-day lockdown as a measure to fight the new wave of COVID-19 in China. Meanwhile, the People's Bank of China (PBoC) decided not to take a more combative step and left interest rates unchanged.
Japan's Nikkei 225 closed 0.16% higher as the dollar grew by 0.12% against the yen at 7:15 am CET to sell for ¥140.5685. South Korea's Kospi fell by 1.22% at 7:15 am CET. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 decreased by 0.18% at the close.
In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite dropped by 0.46% at 7:01 am CET. A minute later, the Shenzhen Composite declined by 0.15%. Hong Kongs Hang Seng slumped by 1.49% at 7:18 am CET.
