China lockdown protests spread to major cities
Protests against COVID-19 lockdowns in China have grown over the weekend, spreading into cities such as Shanghai, Nanjing, and Urumqi. The protests seem to have grown after a fire in Urumqi killed 10 people, with people allegedly blaming the local lockdown for the death toll.
Western media outlets confirmed that demonstrations took place on streets and at universities and that there was an increased police presence in areas where protests were unfolding. There were also reports of people clashing with police officers.
