UK says Russia not likely to advance in central Donetsk

The British Ministry of Defence in its latest assessment of the Russia-Ukraine conflict said the south-central Donetsk Oblast has seen "intense" fighting over the past two weeks, despite "little" territory changing hands.

"Russia is unlikely to be able to concentrate sufficient quality forces to achieve an operational breakthrough," the ministry stated, noting that both sides have troops stationed in the area, but that the Russian forces are suffering "heavy casualties."

The ministry claimed the "heavily contested" sector likely "has potential as a launch point" for a further Russian advance north.
