Biden, Macron to discuss EV subsidies issue - WH

White House communications coordinator John Kirby confirmed on Monday that the matter of subsidies restrictions passed in the $430 billion Inflation Reduction Act by Congress in August would be discussed between United States President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Washington later this week.

The European Union urged a "quick fix" to the bill set to take effect in January, claiming the Biden administration's decision to give tax credits to consumers buying electric vehicles provided they are made within North America is discriminatory. Numerous senior EU officials noted the bloc would have to take countermeasures if there's no solution to this issue.

Kirby also told reporters during a White House briefing that Macron's visit to the US would start with him meeting Vice President Kamala Harris. The two leaders would then visit NASA's headquarters and discuss cooperation in space exploration. The Biden-Macron meeting will take place afterward, Kirby added.
