TSMC to double chip production in Arizona - report
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will double the output of semiconductors at its new factory in Arizona as interest in its products exceeds expectations, Nikkei reported on Monday. The plant is now expected to produce 40,000 chips a month, according to people familiar with the matter, with companies such as Apple Inc. and Nvidia Corp. set to be the first to buy them.
The additional 20,000 semiconductors will be 3-millimeter, in addition to the original plan to make 5- and 4-millimeter ones. The first chips should be produced by the end of next year, although sources said additional production lines could take up to a year to set up.
