Euro area retail sales down by 1.8% in October
The volume of retail trade in the euro area fell by 1.8% in October, while in the EU, the figure decreased by 1.7% compared to the month prior, Eurostat published in its latest report on Monday. On a yearly basis, the figure was down by 2.7% in the euro area and 2.4% in the EU.
Sales of non-food products (except automotive fuel) dropped by 2.1% compared with the previous month in both the euro area and the EU. On the other hand, food, drink, and tobacco went down by 1.5% and 1.3% in the eurozone and the EU, respectively.
The most significant yearly decline in the total retail trade volume was registered in Denmark (9.5%), and the highest expansion was observed in Slovenia (8.5%).
