Croatia defeats Japan to reach World Cup QF

Croatia's football national team defeated Japan on Monday 1–1 (3–1) on Monday to reach the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where it will meet the winner of the match between Brazil and South Korea.

Japan's Daizen Maeda scored the match's first goal in the 43rd minute, giving his team a lead. However, Croatia equalized in the 55th minute with a goal by Ivan Perisic. The match went into two extra time periods before reaching the penalty shootout.

During the penalties, Croatia's goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic managed to save three attempts made by Takumi Minamino, Kaoru Mitoma, and Maya Yoshida. Takuma Asano scored the only penalty for Japan. Meanwhile, Croatia netted three goals from Nikola Vlasic, Marcelo Brozovic, and Mario Pasalic, while Marko Livaja failed to score and hit the left goalpost.
