Pentagon awards Big Tech firms $9B cloud contract

The United States Department of Defense announced that it has awarded Google Support Services LLC, Oracle America Inc., Amazon Web Services Inc. and Microsoft Corp. a contract with a ceiling of $9 billion. The purpose of the deal is to provide the Pentagon with "enterprise-wide globally available cloud services across all security domains and classification levels, from the strategic level to the tactical edge."

The DoD stated that the work on the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract will be performed in Seattle, Washington, and will be completed by June 8, 2028, according to estimates. During that time, the companies could perform an indefinite amount of work due to the deal's indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity nature.
