Orban discusses energy strategy with MOL
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban discussed the ongoing energy crisis while attending a board meeting of the oil and gas company MOL Plc., the state media reported on Thursday.
Orban, who was leading a government delegation, assessed the impact of the economic and energy crisis and sanctions on Hungarian energy security, as well as MOL's business strategy going forward, his office head Bertalan Havasi told the media.
The meeting took place after the government raised a windfall tax on MOL yesterday, requiring oil companies to pay a 95% rate on the Brent-Ural spread, up from the previous 40%. Hungary's access to European Union funds has been limited since the EU Commission decided to suspend 65% of its financial commitments to the country last week.
