Disney+ launches ad-supported version

The Walt Disney Company launched on Thursday an ad-supported subscription tier for its streaming platform Disney+ which will cost $7.99 per month.

The service raised the price of its ad-free monthly subscription from $7.99 to $10.99 after launching the new tier. The ad-supported version is available only in the United States for now, but the company noted it plans to roll it out in other countries in 2023.

The move comes after Bob Iger recently returned to Disney as CEO and follows a similar decision by Netflix, which launched a $6.99 advert-supported plan in November.
