US stocks end strong day, Dow up over 500 pts
Stock exchanges in the United States accelerated gains to close the trading session on Monday, as investors assessed consumers' inflation expectations in addition to several merger announcements. In other business news, CVS and Walgreens reached opioid-related settlements totaling $10.7 billion with the US government. Elsewhere, a Chinese envoy said that his country will relax more COVID measures soon.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average index closed with a 1.58% or 529-point gain as Boeing rose by 3.75%. The Nasdaq 100 increased 1.24% at the close, pulled up by Docusign's 9.99% jump. The S&P 500 was up 1.43% at the end of trading with its best performer Valero Energy soaring 5.24%.
The euro was flat compared to the dollar, going for 1.05356 at 3:59 pm ET.
