US opens lower amid economic uncertainties

Stock indexes in the United States opened lower on Monday as investors took stock of the economic situation following the Federal Reserve's latest interest rate hike. Recession risks are increasing as demand slows, as reflected in the declining private sector activity. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen sought to calm fears, noting that the US economy remains resilient.

The Dow Jones lost 0.15% at 9:31 am ET. The Walt Disney Co. led the losses, falling 1.92% The Nasdaq 100 was down 0.22%, as Atlassian Corp. plunged 5.12%. The S&P 500 declined by 0.09%, with Catalent Inc. dropping 4.20%.

The euro traded 0.13% higher against the dollar and sold for 1.06063 at 9:32 am ET.
