France fines Microsoft €60M over cookies breach
France privacy watchdog Commission Nationale de I'informatique et Des Libertes (CNIL) fined Microsoft Corp. €60 million on Thursday for not providing a simple mechanism to refuse cookies on its Bing search engine.
The computer giant is further ordered to remedy its practices within three months or face a penalty of €60,000 per day of delay. This marks the latest fine imposed by the regulator for cookie violations, having already sanctioned Google and Facebook in January, also for favoring the allow button for cookies, thus implicitly imposing them on users.
