Europe opens in the red ahead of Powell speech
Major stock indexes in Europe opened lower on Tuesday as worries about the state of the global economy affected sentiment. Investors anticipated comments by United States Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell scheduled for later in the day, as well as the meeting between NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and top European Union officials at which they are set to sign a joint declaration on cooperation.
The Euro Stoxx 50 fell 0.42% at 9:01 am CET as Adyen slid 2.26%.
The FTSE 100 decreased by 0.46% at 9:01 am CET. The worst performer was Anglo American, whose shares dropped 2.34%.
The DAX traded 0.35% in the red at 9:03 am CET with Zalando, down 3.13%, leading the losses.
The CAC 40 declined 0.37% at 9:00 am CET as ArcelorMittal fell 1.63%.
The euro was flat compared to the dollar, selling for 1.07328 at 9:00 am CET, while the pound lost 0.22% against the greenback to go for 1.21496 at the same time.
