EIA: US crude inventories up by 8.4 million barrels

Commercial crude oil inventories in the United States, which are not taking into account those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, rose by 8.4 million barrels to 448 million barrels in the week ending January 13, a report released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed on Thursday.

US crude oil refinery inputs averaged 14.9 million barrels per day, rising 203,000 barrels per day from the average recorded the week prior. Refineries operated at 85.3% of their capacity, while gasoline production increased to an average of 8.9 million barrels per day.

Imports of crude oil into the country averaged 6.9 million barrels per day, 511,000 barrels per day more compared to the previous week. Total commercial petroleum inventories rose by 2.4 million barrels.
