Europe closes with modest gains after volatile week

European stock exchanges closed the final trading session of the week with modest gains, shrugging off previously registered losses induced by recession concerns, as investors carefully shifted their focus to the upcoming data scheduled for release next week. The World Economic Forum also contributed to the tumultuous trading week, with notable officials and CEOs participating in the panel discussions and interviews.

Frankfurt's DAX scored 113 points, rising by 0.72% as Zalando SE jumped 4.98%. The Euro Stoxx 50 climbed up by 0.63% with Flutter Entertainment plc increasing 2.45%. The CAC 40 gained 0.63%. EssilorLuxottica SA was its best performer, advancing by 2.16%. London's FTSE 100 edged up by 0.30%, with JD Sports Fashion Plc moving up by 2.78%.

The euro was 0.13% higher against the dollar, to sell at $1.08427 at 5:32 pm CET. The pound sterling was flat versus the greenback to go for $1.23825.
