Russia to increase gas exports to China in 2023

Russia's Gazprom will increase gas exports to China in the upcoming years through its Power of Siberia pipeline, according to a report published by local news agency Ria.

Experts interviewed by the agency estimated that the volume of natural gas exports from Russia to China could surge more than 40% up to 23 billion cubic meters in 2023. At the same time, they argued Moscow will focus on developing the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline, whose transport capacity might reach 50 billion cubic meters per year.

The estimates come after Russia's gas deliveries to Europe significantly decreased last year following the start of the war in Ukraine. The Nord Stream pipeline was halted, while the exports in the Yamal–Europe pipeline through central Europe plunged about three times, per Ria's calculations.
