US opens higher with all eyes on earnings, data

New York stock exchanges opened the trading session on Monday registering modest gains as investors locked their attention on the upcoming economic data and corporate earnings slated for release this week. Excitement over quarterly financial reports from Microsoft, Tesla, Visa, Mastercard, and others appeared to have dispelled fears of an economic downturn amid massive layoffs across the tech sector.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.13% at the opening bell, as Salesforce Inc. jumped 2.21%. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.23%, with Rivian Automotive Inc. surging by 7.46%. The S&P 500 rose 0.11% as Western Digital Corporation soared 6.73%.

The euro lost 0.07% against the dollar, to sell at $1.08498 at 9:31 am ET, despite reaching a nine-month high earlier today.
