NATO chief says German tanks can help Kiev 'win'
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg underlined on Wednesday that the decision by the German government allowing for the export of fourteen combat vehicles to Ukraine could help Kiev "win" and "defend" itself against Russia.
Moscow described the decision by the German cabinet as "very dangerous," stressing that it contradicts Berlin's earlier claims. The recently appointed minister of defense in Germany, Boris Pistorius, explained that tanks could be "operational in about three months," while Kiev called for a larger number of Leopard 2 tanks.
Berlin's move came after several European countries announced their plans on delivering Leopard 2 tanks to Kiev, with the war in Ukraine nearly lasting a year since Russia launched its military operation on February 24, 2022. Namely, Washington is currently considering the option of supplying Kiev with Abrams M1 tanks.
