Scholz insists Berlin won't send fighter jets to Kiev

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reassured the country will not be deploying fighter jets and ground troops to Ukraine during his speech in the Bundestag on Wednesday, underscoring that there will be "no direct" participation of NATO soldiers in the war in Ukraine.

"It can now be said, in Europe, that it is we, along with Britain, who have provided the most arms support to Ukraine," the German chancellor stressed. However, Scholz underscored that Berlin will "do everything" to prevent escalation between Russia and NATO despite its decision to send fourteen combat vehicles to Kiev.

The military alliance's Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Berlin's move, noting that it could help Ukraine "win" the war against Russia.
