DoJ: SBF tried to influence witness using Signal app
The United States Department of Justice insisted that cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried must be restricted from using encrypted messaging software due to the possibility of influencing witnesses in the FTX case.
In a letter filed in Manhattan federal court, federal prosecutors alleged that Bankman-Fried reached out to Ryne Miller, the current General Counsel of FTX in the US, via the Signal messaging app on January 15.
"I would really love to reconnect and see if there's a way for us to have a constructive relationship, use each other as resources when possible, or at least vet things with each other," Bankman-Fried was cited by prosecutors as telling Miller. The former FTX head was also in contact with other company employees, the filing said.
