Protests shake NYC after release of Nichols video
Protests erupted in New York City's downtown in response to the release of a three-minute video in which Memphis police officers can be seen beating African-American Tyre Nichols on January 7, which led to his death three days later.
Commenting on the incident, New York Mayor Eric Adams (pictured) insisted that he is "outraged" by the video and "feels betrayed" by the five police officers who participated in the beating of Nichols.
"My message to New Yorkers is to respect the wishes of Mr. Nichols' mother: If you need to express your anger and outrage, do so peacefully," Adams said in a press briefing just before the video was released, calling for peaceful protests in the wake of the event.
