Russia calls for preventing nuclear war in Korea

The Russian government urged all parties involved in the crisis in the Korean Peninsula to concentrate on preventing a nuclear confrontation in northeast Asia. Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov reiterated that Moscow is committed to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which aims to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.

In an interview for local agency Ria Novosti published on Saturday, Ryabkov noted that "the only reliable way is not just to move away from the dangerous line, but to solve challenges in the region, including the nuclear one, through establishing a peacekeeping system, within which, based on the principles of equality, security guarantees would be provided to all who need them."

Ryabkov also reiterated that Russia is ready for a constructive dialogue on the matter with all interest parties based on a joint initiative with China.
