Wall Street closes with losses as Fed, earnings loom
Major stock market indexes in the United States closed in the negative territory on Monday following a session plagued by losses as traders fix their gaze on the mid-week decision on the interest rates to be revealed by the US Federal Reserve. The following days will also be marked by the latest batch of tech companies' earnings reports.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.77% or 260 points at the close. The worst performer was Johnson & Johnson, falling 3.70% after losing in court, marking its lowest point since 2020. The Nasdaq 100 plunged 2.09% or 254 points as Rivian Automotive pulled the index down with its shares plummeting 9.03%. The S&P 500 decreased by 1.29% as Tesla dived 6.32% after price cuts in the sector.
The euro traded 0.19% lower against the dollar at 3:58 pm ET to sell for 1.08464.
