Erdogan: Turkey against Sweden's NATO bid

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan insisted on Wednesday that his country won't accept Sweden's application to join NATO at this stage.

Speaking before the Turkish parliament, Erdogan stressed that "Sweden shouldn't bother to try at this point. We will not say yes to their NATO application as long as they allow burning of the Quran." Erdogan's remarks came in response to an incident near Turkey's embassy in Stockholm from ten days ago in which Islam's central religious textbook was burned by far-right politician Rasmus Paludan.

Separately, Erdogan hinted over the weekend Turkey could accept Finland's bid to join the western military alliance.
