US opens higher in Fed rates decision's aftermath
Major stock market indexes in the United States opened higher on Thursday after the Federal Reserve decided to raise the key interest rate by the expected 25 basis points while insisting the country will not enter a recession. Meanwhile, Meta Platforms Inc. saw better-than-projected results in the fourth quarter of 2022. Amazon.com Inc., Apple Inc., and Alphabet Inc. all recorded major gains in the premarket ahead of their earnings reports.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened 0.09% higher as Microsoft Corporation grew by 2.21% at 9:59 am ET, but turned to losses right away. The Nasdaq 100 advanced by 2.41% or 297 points. The S&P 500 gained 1.07%. Align Technology Inc. was the best performer on the latter two indexes, skyrocketing by 21.92%
The euro lost 0.33% to the dollar to sell for $1.09515 at 9:28 am ET.
