Microsoft announces AI-powered versions of Bing, Edge

Microsoft Corp. announced at an event on Tuesday that it will use OpenAI's artificial intelligence to improve its search engine Bing and its web browser Edge.

Microsoft's Corporate Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer Yusuf Mehdi stated the company will give its users a new "AI-powered copilot for the web" and added that "an all-new Bing search engine and Edge" will be at "the center of this copilot." Besides the traditional search results, users will also have a Bing chat interface at their disposal.

CEO Satya Nadella said the company is ready to start an AI race with rivals, such as Google, insisting it will "move fast" and adding the ChatGPT technology is set to "reshape every category" when it comes to computers. "Most importantly we want to have a lot of fun innovating again in search, because it's high time," he stated.

Microsoft shares jumped 3.71% to $166.19 at 1:20 pm ET amid the event.
