Uber seals deal with Google, Oracle for cloud storage

Uber Technologies Inc. signed contracts with Google's parent Alphabet Inc. and Oracle Corporation that will allow it to migrate its data centers to their cloud platforms, the companies confirmed on Monday.

Kamran Zargahi, Uber’s senior director of technology strategy, said that the two seven-year-long deals will completely transfer the data from Uber's centers over the next few years, changing the company's strategy to rely solely on its server hardware after the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the risks in IT delivery supply chains.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian welcomed the move and announced further extending services which include Uber utilizing Google’s Maps for routing its vehicles and helping Google ads reach consumers based on their journeys.
