House panel subpoenas five Big Tech CEOs

United States House of Representatives Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (pictured) subpoenaed on Wednesday the chief executive officers of Alphabet Inc., Amazon.com Inc., Apple Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., and Microsoft Corporation for "documents and communications relating to the federal government's reported collusion with Big Tech to suppress free speech."

The companies have not "adequately complied" with the panel's earlier requests, the committee said in a statement. Subpoenas to Sundar Pichai, Andy Jassy, Tim Cook, Mark Zuckerberg and Satya Nadella are the "first step in holding Big Tech accountable" when it comes to "fundamental free speech principles," according to the panel. The committee will be "examining how private actors coordinate with the government to suppress First Amendment-protected speech."

The five CEOs will have to "turn over all requested documents and communications by March 23, 2023."
