US opens lower as yields soar amid inflation worries
Major United States stock markets opened lower on Friday as investors considered the impact of stubborn inflation figures. Ten-year bond yields jumped to their highest point since November, while oil dropped over 3%. Meanwhile, Federal Reserve member Mester sent signals that the US economy could still enter a recession.
The Dow Jones lost 0.38% at 9:30 am ET, with Salesforce Inc. falling by 1.68%. The Nasdaq 100 declined by 0.71% as Moderna plunged 6.03%. The S&P 500 dropped 0.54%. Albemarle Corp. led the losses, down 6.69%.
The euro traded 0.28% lower compared to the dollar and went for 1.06454 at 9:32 am ET.
