UK extends energy bill support for 3 months
The United Kingdom government will keep the Energy Price Guarantee (EPG) in place for the next three months, the Treasury announced on Wednesday. The scheme that will limit the energy bills at £2,500 a year.
The plan will continue from April to June, saving an average household £160 over the course of three months. Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt's extension of the plan will help households cope with Ofgem's £3,280 price cap.
"High energy bills are one of the biggest worries for families, which is why we're maintaining the Energy Price Guarantee at its current level. With energy bills set to fall from July onwards, this temporary change will bridge the gap and ease the pressure on families, while also helping to lower inflation too," Hunt stated.
