Gazprom says Eni, RWE, others sued it in 2022
PJSC Gazprom announced on Thursday that Italy's Eni S.p.A., Germany's RWE AG, France's Engie SA, Finland's Gasum Oy, Poland's PGNiG S.A., and Ukraine's NAK Naftogaz all filed lawsuits against it in 2022.
Eni filed the lawsuit against Gazprom over Russian President Vladimir Putin's demand foreign parties paid for gas in rubles. Engie did so to dispute the changed prices of gas. PGNiG sought the recovery of interest on retroactive payments. Gasum asked for the termination of the contract it signed with Gazprom back in 1994. RWE began two arbitration proceedings, while Naftogaz sought damages for the gas supplies that were promised but never delivered. The majority of hearings are due to start in March.
On the matter of Naftogaz, Gazprom revealed that the International Arbitration Court of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has decided to allow an arbitration tribunal to probe whether the ceasing of gas deliveries was justified under what the Russian firm described as a change in circumstances.
