Europe higher at open, ECB, CPI data in limelight
Major stock exchanges in Europe traded higher at the open on Friday as investors digested the latest remarks given by European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, who said that the euro area's economy is expected to recover over the coming quarters while reassuring the public that the region's liquidity remains "perfectly addressed." Today, traders will be focusing on the Eurozone inflation report.
The DAX traded with a 0.75% gain at the opening bell, with Zalando up 1.42% at 9:03 am CET. The FTSE 100 added 0.75% at 9:01 am CET, as Glencore increased 2.31% a minute later. The CAC 40 rose 0.86% at the open, with Societe Generale jumping 3.34% at 9:01 am CET. The Euro Stoxx 50 advanced 0.76% at the beginning of the session, as Deutsche Post gained 2.78% at 9:01 am CET.
The euro traded 0.50% above the dollar at 8:59 am CET, selling for 1.06640. The pound was up 0.45% against the greenback to go for 1.21644 concurrently.
