Europe closes higher as CAC 40 soars to record high

Major European stock markets closed higher on Tuesday, with the CAC 40 reaching an all-time high of 7,403 points during the session.

Before the close, the International Monetary Fund released its latest economic outlook report, according to which it expects the eurozone economy to grow by 0.8%, while the UK is expected to contract by 0.3%. Elsewhere, Sentix added today that confidence among investors in the region rose in April.

At the close, the German DAX rose 0.38%, with Heidelbergcement being the best performer, up 2.56%. The French benchmark CAC 40 added 0.89%, finally closing at 7,390, while ArcelorMittal improved by 4.59%. Across the English Channel, the FTSE 100 climbed 0.57%, as Rio Tinto increased by 4.91%. Finally, the pan-European Euro Stoxx 50 improved by 0.57%, and Flutter Entertainment was leading the gains, rising by 3.09%.

On the currency front, the euro and the pound were up by 0.48% and 0.37% against the dollar at 5:28 pm CET, selling for $1.09137 and $1.24275.
