WH to meet with Alphabet, Microsoft reps to talk AI
The White House announced on Thursday that United States Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with the representatives of Google's parent Alphabet Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Anthropic, and OpenAI later in the day to discuss issues concerning the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in technology with an emphasis on data protection.
President Joe Biden's administration also announced measures concerning AI, including new investments in research and development (R&D) of how to create a "responsible" system. It added the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) will release "policies to ensure the US government is leading by example on mitigating AI risks and harnessing AI opportunities."
"AI is one of the most powerful technologies of our time, but in order to seize the opportunities it presents, we must first mitigate its risks. President Biden has been clear that ... we must place people and communities at the center by supporting responsible innovation... while protecting our society, security, and economy," the White House's statement read.
